Did you know that slicing a tomato is an event? It must be done where the tomato is sliced ever so thin, but still has some substance. This is useful for a half of a bagel (I like the everything bagel in this instance) smeared with cream cheese, slices of nova lox (not just any lox), a tomato cut to perfection top with thin slices of red onions and capers. Sprinkled with a little kosher salt and less than a pinch of pepper.  A work of art.

I’ve really enjoyed these 31 days. Having a challenge. A deadline. Discipline. It’s helped me to sleep better at night, feeling accomplished and satisfied.

Inktober 2018 – Day 31

Art, Illustration, Ink

Slice. The last day of the Inktober challenge. Between this and 31 Paintings in 31 Days, I have felt so accomplished. I slept better this whole month (except when the moon was full). I love having a structure to my life. Deadlines, habits and doing the work.

We went to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico one cold January day. Sandhill cranes everywhere. Snow geese flocks so loud and crowded. The light was beautiful. My favorite story there was while my two brothers and I were observing that loud flock of geese. One of the brothers takes out an air horn expecting to scatter the large flock and it was a whisper in comparison to those geese. They were not phased. I think we were all wanting the flock to rise and fly away in fright. What a sight that would have been. All three of us had the best spontaneous laugh.

Every morning, my entire high school life was spent being jolted awake by Mother pulling my big toe out of it’s socket. I was a night owl and I guess that’s what it took to get me going. That toe only bothers me now when the weather changes.

Double portions. I either heard it or I made it up, but I like to say, “Momma always said don’t eat anything bigger than your head.” I was caught over exaggerating my eating on Skype while Husband and I were chatting in the two years we were living apart. One year we watched the Super Bowl together. I would turn down the sound of the game and he would turn down the sound of the ads. Win/win.  #HTP31in31 #double #doingthework #successhabits #discipline #ineeddeadlines

Double. For me, hearing things when I was little took on double meanings. When we were little my mother would say in her very heavy Brooklyn, New York accent, “Don’t look a giftoss in the mouth.” For years I never knew what that meant, until I heard “Don’t look a GIFT HORSE in the mouth.” Years later, my brothers and I were comparing things we had heard growing up. This giftoss brought lots of laughter. We laughed even harder when our youngest brother thought it was a sexual reference.
